ENKA Energy Transition (ENKA) has acquired a 50 MW / 150 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Grenaa, Denmark from clean energy developer BattMan Energy, The project is backed by energy transition infrastructure manager White Summit Capital through its Decarbonisation Infrastructure Fund II. BattMan Energy will deliver construction management services under an EPCm agreement for the project.

Upon completion, BattMan Energy will also deliver a multi-year asset management agreement to the project. This will optimise the operations of the projects and ensure high availability, to provide long-term business case certainty.

The Grenaa project represents a significant milestone for the build-out of battery storage in Denmark. Having secured all necessary permits and grid connection, the project will become the largest battery storage facility in Eastern Jutland when it enters commercial operation in the first quarter of 2028. The facility will help stabilise the Danish power grid by absorbing surplus solar and wind generation and delivering ancillary services in a market where the need for flexibility is growing in step with the continued expansion of renewable energy.

‘This first project with ENKA Energy Transition is a clear demonstration of BattMan’s commitment to delivering high-quality, transaction close, wrapped utility-scale BESS projects that help accelerate the energy transition in Denmark. Our partnership with ENKA Energy Transition continues to raise the bar for development excellence, executional certainty, and long-term asset management, and we are proud that our project will support Denmark’s ambition to build out a resilient, stronger, and cleaner electricity system’
– Daniel Kappelgaard, CEO of BattMan Energy.

“Denmark has been a strategic priority for ENKA and White Summit Capital, driven by the country’s high renewable penetration and its growth as a major clean energy export hub. We are pleased to secure our first foothold in this market through a partnership with BattMan Energy, leveraging their deep expertise, and look forward to building a long-term presence here. We would also like to thank the team at Gorrissen and Federspiel for their support on this transaction.”

-Sarang Boddupalli, CEO of ENKA

Construction is expected to commence in 2027, while commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2028.

BattMan Energy raises a triple-digit million DKK investment to accelerate battery storage rollout

Danish renewable energy pioneers back BattMan Energy’s growing construction portfolio through Battery Investment Group (BIG)

BattMan Energy today announces that it has raised a triple-digit million investment in equity for a minority stake, led by Battery Investment Group ApS (BIG), a consortium of established Danish renewable energy developers.

Investors in BIG include several renewable energy pioneers in Denmark: GK Gruppen ApS, LISBY WP ApS, Salling Vindkraft ApS, Harbo Renewables Invest ApS, JHC Investments ApS, Carsten Bach Holding ApS, Petri Holding ApS, PMN Holding ApS, JJB Vind ApS and ESO Holding ApS.

The equity will support BattMan Energy’s continued growth and will primarily be allocated to fund the construction of its more than 1 GWh active portfolio scheduled for commissioning during 2026 and 2027.

Navid Samandari, Chairman of the Board at BattMan Energy, said: “After a thorough fundraising process with interest from leading international investors, I am excited to welcome BIG to BattMan. I am incredibly proud of the founders and the entire team for reaching this major milestone. It is a testament to what they have accomplished with remarkable speed, grit and determination. This hard work and dedication continue into our next chapter.”

Daniel Kappelgaard, CEO & Co-founder of BattMan Energy, said: “I am very pleased to welcome BIG into our shareholder group. We have worked with several of the investors in BIG for years and completed multiple transactions together. Their decision to invest in BattMan is a strong vote of confidence and a natural next step in a relationship built on shared results. This investment will enable our continued growth as a leading independent power producer in flexibility and supports our strategy to bridge the renewable energy transition.”

Gunnar Lisby Kjær, Chairman of Board, Battery Investment Group (BIG), said: “The consortium of renewable energy developers behind BIG sees collaboration with BattMan as essential to the intelligent development of renewables in Denmark and abroad. Battery storage is part of the solution needed to help Energinet address bottlenecks in the grid. As investors, we see significant opportunities in this partnership both in terms of shared knowledge and development potential. We are confident that BattMan will continue to lead the market in this space.”

Bruun & Hjejle and Kromann Reumert acted as legal advisors to BIG and BattMan Energy, respectively.

About BattMan Energy

With the investment from BIG, BattMan Energy has now raised and secured investments in the renewable energy transition for more than DKK 2.5 billion since its launch in October 2022, reinforcing its position as Denmark’s leading developer of battery energy storage systems (BESS).

BattMan Energy has committed projects totalling 350 MW and 1,040 MWh. Once fully operational, this will be equivalent to approximately 9% of Denmark’s average electricity demand, enough to fully charge 17,000 electric vehicles, or to cover the entire Danish electricity demand for approximately 15 minutes.
